Last week, I asked you about California’s redistricting effort ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌‌
Representative Scott Peters

Dear [salutation],

The shooting of Charlie Kirk was horrific. Political violence is never acceptable and we have seen far too much of it in the past few years. At the foundation of America is the freedom of speech, even speech we disagree with. We must be able to have ideological disagreements while at the same time standing together condemning all forms of violence. I hope that’s what we will do now. I am praying for Charlie’s family, friends, and loved ones as they grieve this loss.

I am also praying for the victims of the Evergreen High School shooting and yet another community torn apart by senseless, needless gun violence. Enough is enough.

Last week, I asked you about California’s redistricting effort. 73.6 percent of responders support redistricting and 22.1 percent oppose it. 4.3 percent are unsure. I am fighting in Congress to ensure that the 2026 elections are fair. The California legislature is doing the same. Make sure your voter registration is up to date for the upcoming special election HERE.

Casework Success

Thomas from Bankers Hill needed help with his retirement application after applying in January. In June, his application had still not moved forward, and he had not heard anything from the Social Security Administration. My office was able to reach out and confirm his application did not have any errors and ensure it received a fair review. One week later, Thomas received his first disbursement, with back pay from January to June, totaling $12,265.00.

Republicans Advance NDAA That Doesn't Protect San Diego

On Wednesday, I voted against the Fiscal Year 2026 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). During my first five terms in Congress, I consistently voted for the bipartisan defense authorization bill, because it put the country first. My values have not changed, but this traditionally apolitical bill has. I did vote to negotiate a compromise with the Senate and hope we can strip out hateful provisions, prioritize our service members, and maintain the wins we have secured for San Diego, including my bill to support San Diego’s ship repair industry.

Introducing Legislation to Protect Seniors’ Access to Lab Tests

On Thursday, I introduced the Reforming and Enhancing Sustainable Updates to Laboratory Testing Services (RESULTS) Act. This bipartisan legislation would protect seniors’ access to essential laboratory tests and medical services. Without reform to the Medicare Clinical Laboratory Fee Schedule, deep cuts under that payment system are set to begin in January 2026, which will threaten access to common lab tests for America’s seniors. Diagnostic tests are critical to ensuring patients can get the answers and treatments they need to live long, healthy lives. I look forward to passing this legislation and protecting these services for San Diego’s seniors.

Scott’s Reads

  • This article outlines the threat that increasingly destructive wildfires pose to giant sequoia trees, and the tactics firefighters utilize to save these iconic trees. My Save Our Sequoias Act would give land managers the tools they need to reduce the severity of wildfires and preserve these trees for generations to come. I have a solution for the very crisis this article talks about!

  • This article talks about the Trump Administration’s cancellation of the 80 percent complete Revolution Wind Project and how this will hurt working people.

Lastly, I aim for this newsletter to be an informative, fact-based recap of what’s happening in Washington and the work I’m doing to address what’s important to San Diego. If you know someone who would appreciate these updates like you do, please feel free to forward this email or encourage them to sign up to receive them here.

Thanks, and take care.
